Thames Valley Air Ambulance’s integration of VR headsets into aviation ground training has been a game-changer for our crew development. The immersive technology allows trainees to experience complex scenarios in a controlled, repeatable environment, enhancing both confidence and competence. From cockpit familiarisation to emergency response drills, VR has enabled us to simulate high-pressure situations with remarkable realism—without the logistical constraints of traditional training. It’s particularly effective for reinforcing decision-making and procedural memory, giving our teams a safe space to practice and refine their skills.

Beyond the technical benefits, VR has also transformed the way we engage with training. The interactive nature of the headsets fosters deeper concentration and retention, and the flexibility of the system means we can tailor sessions to individual learning needs. Feedback from our crews has been overwhelmingly positive—they appreciate the hands-on experience and the ability to revisit scenarios as needed. As an organisation committed to innovation and excellence in patient care, adopting VR has strengthened our operational readiness and reaffirmed our commitment to pioneering training solutions.

Training Captain - Thames Valley Air Ambulance

As a training analyst, developer, and course designer, I have created multiple DSAT compliant aircrew flight training courses and associated training material for international Security and Defence customers. Recently I was tasked to create a six-month DSAT compliant aircrew course for an international Security and Defence customer using the MAXRES Architect and Construct toolset.

In short, my experience of the capabilities and output of using MAXRES Construct to generate the aircrew course has been fantastic. It allowed me to focus more on refining the training material and course to achieve a higher quality standard output within the tight available time period vs previously spending significant time collating and managing the significant training needs dataset to just build the basic framework and output of the course.

Working with the MAXRES platform, I was able to be very specific in the generation of the MAXRES Construct output to seamlessly blend with previous course delivery formats, styles, and information delivery method. After initial set-up of MAXRES Construct, immediate observation was that MAXRES Construct was able to significantly reduce development and lesson creation time by at least 30-40% and able to achieve a very high quality output.

As a user, I was able to track and perform universal changes, leverage the use of AI to generate succinct text output for different user needs, collate and combine information output from multiple publications that were referenced, and leveraged the AI output to realise new teaching points that were overlooked as part of the original Training Needs Analysis.

In short, I found the MAXRES capability to be a force multiplier and incredibly powerful software suite that can deliver joined up end to end training design, development, and delivery capability.
